Mistake 1: Treating Google Business Profile as Set-and-Forget
Your Google Business Profile is the highest-leverage free asset in local SEO. It decides whether you appear in the map pack, the three local results shown above the regular listings for searches like graphic design near me or pipe fittings supplier Dubai.
The most common state we find a new client's profile in: claimed years ago, half the fields empty, three photos from opening day, and a category chosen in a hurry. Google reads that as a business nobody maintains, and ranks it accordingly.
- Fill every field: hours, services, description, attributes, service areas.
- Add real photos monthly. Profiles with fresh photos get measurably more calls and direction requests.
- Post updates. Offers, completed projects, new services. Activity signals a living business.
Mistake 2: Inconsistent Name, Address, and Phone Number
Search engines cross-check your business details across your website, your Business Profile, directories, and social profiles. When your name reads Al Noor Trading LLC in one place, Al Noor Trading in another, and AlNoor Trdg in a third, the engine loses confidence that these are the same business, and your local authority splits into fragments.
Pick one exact format for your name, address, and phone number. Then fix every listing to match it, character for character. It is tedious and it works.
Mistake 3: Ignoring Reviews
Review count and review recency both feed local rankings, and the star rating decides whether people click once you do rank. A profile sitting at 4.8 with steady new reviews will beat an identical business at 3.9 with reviews from two years ago, in rankings and in clicks.
The fix costs nothing: ask every happy customer, right after the moment they are happiest. Send the direct review link on WhatsApp. Reply to every review you get, including the bad ones, because replies are public proof that someone is home.
Never buy reviews or ask staff to post them. Google's detection has gotten aggressive, and a filtered or suspended profile is far worse than a slowly growing one.
Mistake 4: The Wrong Primary Category
Your primary category is the strongest single signal on your Business Profile. A building materials trader whose primary category is simply Store will lose to competitors categorized as Building Materials Supplier on every relevant search, regardless of everything else.
Check what categories your top-ranking competitors use, pick the most specific primary category that honestly describes you, and add the rest as secondary categories.
Mistake 5: One Page for All Your Services
Search engines rank pages, not businesses. If your entire offering lives on a single Services page, you are asking one URL to compete for every keyword you care about, and it will lose to competitors who gave each service its own dedicated, detailed page.
Write one page per service you actually want inquiries for. Describe the service, who it is for, what it costs or where pricing starts, and the questions customers ask. That structure is also exactly what AI search engines prefer to cite.

Get In TouchFix These First
None of these five fixes needs a big budget, and most need an afternoon each. Do them in order: profile, NAP, reviews, categories, service pages. Businesses that clean up these basics usually see local movement within weeks, because most of their local competitors never bother.
